Kayak Polo

Starting Oct 20, 2009! Tuesday evenings 8:15-9:45, $150 season, or $10 drop-in fee
We are excited to be offering drop-in kayak polo again this year. Please be in your bathing suit and ready to go. We're in the pool from 8:30-9:30, but we arrive 15 minutes early to get our boats down, and stay 15 minutes late to put them away. If you need a boat and gear, it is included in the fee.
These sessions are not aimed at absolute beginners, but if you are comfortable with a wet-exit or a T-rescue, you are welcome to come play polo with us! For more info phone 872-2847.
Spring Beginner Kayaking Lessons

Every Spring, the Fort Smith Paddling Club holds "Learn to Kayak" clinics in the pool while we're waiting for the ice on the river to break up. When the water warms up (June sometime), we offer moving water courses on the Slave River.

Coaching/Rescue Clinics
For the past three years, the Northwest Territories Kayak Association has subsidized kayak coaching clinics in the summer.

Wilderness First Aid
In late May 2009, the paddling club hosted Blair Doyle and Lyse Boyce from Nova Scotia to teach our Advanced Wilderness and Remote First Aid course. The course was excellent, and included many very realistic scenarios, including one midnight scenario which involved extracting an unconscious kayaker from his boat, and carrying him on a makeshift stretcher up a steep, slippery, and overgrown hill!
